Total Community Benefit Exceeded $126 Million in 2024
ROSWELL, NM (3/10/2025) – Eastern New Mexico Medical Center provided care to thousands of area residents in 2024, with approximately 202,000 patient encounters across its network of physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care. In addition to delivering safe, quality, compassionate healthcare, the health system is helping those in need, supporting charitable organizations and contributing to the area economy. In its most recent Community Benefit Report, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center impact totaled an estimated $126 million in 2024.
Eastern New Mexico Medical Center completed the transition to a new, fully integrated medical record system that supports streamlined patient care. In addition, ENMMC provided medical support as well as support through donations and volunteering to assist the many victims of the Ruidoso Wild Fire and the Roswell Floods.
“Our work to grow and enhance the medical services we provide is ongoing, as we continuously improve our safety and quality and support access to healthcare for our community,” said Warren Yehl, CEO, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. “From providing care to our most vulnerable residents to supporting local charitable organizations, we are proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Southeastern New Mexico.”
Eastern New Mexico Medical Center’s emergency room provides lifesaving, medically necessary care at more than 29,000 patient encounters each year, treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2024, ENMMC provided nearly $50 million in charity and uncompensated care and provided resources to help patients in need secure medications and medical support devices.
The health system and its employees also support local organizations that make a difference, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through service projects such as the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter drive for Harvest Ministries and contributions to charitable organizations such as the United Way of Chaves County, Chaves County CASA and our very own Senior Circle, the health system gives back to the community throughout the year.
To enhance patient care and expand healthcare access, ENMMC is investing in medical services, facilities and technologies. Capital projects in 2024 totaled approximately $6.2 million and included the transition to a fully integrated medical records system, enhancements in Labor and Delivery, and a centralized 24 hours a day monitoring system.
ENMMC provides 24/7 cardiac coverage and interventional cardiac services for the region. Investment in a 24 hour central monitoring system supports care for patients throughout the hospital. Through the recruitment of several specialists, ENMMC offers more advanced procedures right here at home with specialized staff in orthopedics, podiatry, endocrine, gynecological and general surgery. The hospital adheres to quality standards by maintaining certification as a chest pain center and stroke center.
“We are strategically applying our resources to help area residents have access to the care they need close to home,” said Yehl. “These investments, along with our outstanding medical staff and employees, support our delivery of high quality medical care and services for a positive patient experience.”
Eastern New Mexico Medical Center is one of the community’s larger employers with a payroll of $55.6 million. Support for the future healthcare workforce includes training the next generation of medical professionals from Eastern New Mexico University Roswell and Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine.
In addition to supporting the local economy through job creation, ENMMC paid $7.8 million in taxes in 2024, monies that support local infrastructure and civic resources.
