Delivers essential medical services and broad impact to the larger community
Over the course of 2023, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center played a vital role helping people get well and live healthier at more than 194,000 patient encounters across its hospital and growing network of Eastern New Mexico Medical Group physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care.
At more than 27,000 emergency department visits each year, lifesaving medically necessary care is provided for all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Members of the community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care and the hospital has resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center provided more than $39 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.
“Eastern New Mexico Medical Center serves as a regional medical hub for Southeastern New Mexico and plays a vital role in our community around the clock, every day of the year to help people get well and live healthier,” said Warren A. Yehl, chief executive officer for ENMMC. “Regardless of holidays or challenging weather, our dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers are using their skills, experience and compassion in service to the patients who are counting on us.”
Other support for social determinants of health in the community includes financial donations for charitable organizations such as The United Way of Chaves County and Chaves County CASA, and acts of service such as the Jars of Love drive collecting peanut and other nut butters for the Harvest Ministries food bank.
ENMMC applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that patients want to access close to home. The hospital’s successful recruitment of specialist physicians makes more advanced procedures available in our community. From quality emergency care to 24/7 cardiac coverage to offering care for women of all ages, ENMMC plays a vital role in the healthcare of our region.
Civic resources and services are supported by ENMMC tax payments of more than $5.4 million and the payroll of more than $52.3 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Workforce development remains a priority and the hospital has strong relationships with local nursing programs and other educational institutions such as Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. Investments are being made to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals through assistance with student loan repayments, as well as tuition reimbursement.
Yehl added, “We have a tremendous team of physicians and employees who are committed to serving our community and we are able to perform our vital role through their skills and compassion. We are honored to serve and extremely proud of our hospital’s overall community impact of more than $110 million in 2023.”
